Corn fair in Mexico

On March 15, 2025, the Sofia Barat Popular Education Team, located in Amealco,

Queretaro, Mexico, participated in the Corn Fair. An event that takes place every year in the community of San Miguel Tlaxcaltepec in the municipality of Amealco; convened by the fair's organizing committee. Approximately one thousand people attended, in addition to the participation of several local and regional organizations.

Magna Espinosa Santiago rscj, a member of the Educación Popular Sofía Barat A.C. team, shares her testimony:

It was a very rewarding experience in which we got involved with a lot of enthusiasm. Through the 'Carreta Mágica' Project (traveling toy library), we carried out an activity about caring for the earth. We had the participation of children and adults who were very interested in the proposed activities.

We started the activity with the reading of a story, which encouraged dialogue and the exchange of experiences on the subject; later, the children and even the adults carried out a creative activity where they painted stones and let their imagination fly to create different shapes, animals, plants, etc.

We ended with the planting of a corn seed in a pot, taking with them the commitment to transplant it and taking care of it at home.

At Educación Popular Sofía Barat, we are certain that creating synergies with other like-minded organizations drives what we do, we learn from each other, but above all, it has a positive impact on the lives of the people with whom we share our educational mission and encourages us to continue sowing seeds of hope.
